ECI Telecom and NeoPhotonics Announce Use Of Ultra Low Loss PLC ROADMs In ECI Telecom’s XDM® Optical Platforms


New Ultra Low Loss ROADM Meets the Requirements for 40 Gbps Operation in Next Gen Metro and Long-Haul Networks


Brussels – September 23, 2008 – NeoPhotonics and ECI Telecom today announced here at the European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC 2008) that NeoPhotonics’ new Ultra-Low Loss Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) modules are being used in ECI Telecom’s XDM® Optical Networking Platform. The Ultra-Low Loss ROADM incorporates NeoPhotonics’ advanced planar lightwave circuit (PLC) technology to significantly reduce the insertion loss and increase the pass band, thus meeting the requirements for next generation 40 Gbps optical transmission systems.

“The incorporation of NeoPhotonics’ ultra low loss DWDM MUX/DMUX into the popular ROADM configuration we are currently shipping lowers insertion loss by more than 2 dB, significantly decreases ripple and increases the pass band by >50%, which are critical parameters in cascaded and 40 Gbps DWDM architectures,” said Ferris Lipscomb, V. P. of Marketing at NeoPhotonics. “NeoPhotonics’ ultra low loss ROADM is suitable for any of the popular 40 Gbps coding schemes and can be used in architectures which cascade up to 16 nodes.”


NeoPhotonics’ new ROADM module builds upon the success of NeoPhotonics’ extensive line of Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) products, including Arrayed Wavelength Gratings (AWGs) and Variable Optical Multiplexers (VMUXs).
