Virtual PBX’s iVPBX Service Delivers Full-featured, End-to-End VoIP for Businesses for One-Fourth the Cost of Competing Products or Less

Virtual PBX®, the inventor and leading supplier of hosted business phone services, and Gizmo5, the leading standards-based consumer calling service, today announced a new collaboration that gives clients a complete business-class phone solution that offers the industry’s deepest feature set at a price level well below the current industry standard.

Built on an open-system VoIP peering platform, the new service combines the feature-rich products of both companies. As part of the announcement, Virtual PBX has launched iVPBX,

a new product that provides customers with unlimited inbound calling and no per-minute fees at a price of just under $10 per seat — about one-fourth to one-fifth the cost of most competing plans. Gizmo5 clients who use the new iVPBX product can send calls by IP directly to their Gizmo phones at no cost.

“This deeper relationship with Gizmo5 is a sound next step for Virtual PBX, following on its innovative open VoIP peering technology announced last November,” said Rob Enderle, president and principal analyst of the Enderle Group. “The attractive pricing for its new iVPBX product comes at an ideal time given the current economic conditions, and continues Virtual PBX’s leadership in supporting the small business market.”

Virtual PBX has been delivering calls to businesses through its hosted PBX service since 1997. Typically, companies using the service have one main business number for clients to call. Virtual PBX takes those calls, answers them with a “virtual” attendant, and then delivers them to employees using any kind of phone, in any location. This has enabled small firms and those with distributed employees to portray a professional phone image and get top-end features without the expense or maintenance hassles of purchasing their own telecommunications hardware.

Traditional Virtual PBX pricing plans include a varying number of free minutes with a price of 4.4 to 6.5 cents per minute for additional usage. With the new iVPBX product, available now, calls coming in on a local number and sent to a Gizmo5 phone will have no per-minute fee for unlimited use. For more information on iVPBX, visit

Gizmo5 offers VoIP services to both consumers and businesses. Users can make and receive calls from any computer with browser access to the Internet, or use Gizmo5 to power IP phones. Gizmo adds a whole host of features like call recording, IM, file sharing, and much more. Setting up a Gizmo5 account is free, and so are inbound calls to a Gizmo client, with a small fee for outbound dialing. By adding the Virtual PBX service, business users of Gizmo5 gain all the advantages of a high-end PBX, such as an auto-attendant, transferring calls between users, and routing calls to departments though ACD queues.

“We’re very excited about this partnership,” said Paul Hammond, CEO of Virtual PBX. “Our new iVPBX product gives users a very low-cost plan with unlimited usage, and the combination of Virtual PBX and Gizmo5 delivers the best of both worlds at a fraction of the cost of typical hosted IP-PBX offerings.”

Michael Robertson, CEO of Gizmo5, commented, “For Gizmo5 business customers, Virtual PBX’s new iVPBX product adds top-flight PBX services with no hardware or software costs. This is a great example of how standards-based SIP can benefit both service providers and users.”

Both companies will be promoting the partnership. More information about the products and the partnership can be found at and

Optelian Packs Four Times More Capacity onto Fiber

Contact: Louise Boyling

Tel: 1-613-688-8000 x2130 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Packs Four Times More Capacity onto Fiber

New Muxponder Aggregates 4 OC-48/STM-16/OTU-1 Systems onto 1 Fiber or C/DWDM Wavelength

Ottawa, ON/Marietta, GA March 30th, 2009

Optelian’s new 4 x 2.5 Gb/s Muxponder is a break-through for high-growth networks. Up to four OC-48/STM-16 or OTU-1 systems can now be aggregated into one 10.7 Gb/s OTU-2 signal to go onto a single fiber or onto a single wavelength of a C/DWDM system.

This economical and quick-to-deploy solution is a boon for both established network operators experiencing fiber exhaust due to growth in their networks and for new operators with limited fiber who are trying to expand their businesses.

In addition to aggregation, the muxponder converts the signal to OTU-2, adding the benefits of G.709 OTN. These include spanning longer distances with an additional 6/8.2 dB gain from GFEC/UFEC forward error correction, as well as enhanced performance monitoring paired with protection path switching.

“When used as part of Optelian’s LightGAIN optical transport system, the MPX-3GOTN is astonishingly easy to engineer, install, and turn-up,” said Ellen Warren, Optelian Product Manager. “Whether the network operator has existing OC-48/STM-16 or OTU-1 systems they want to consolidate or whether they want to add these systems but have limited fiber available, this new muxponder dramatically reduces deployment time and cost and brings in revenue faster.”

About Optelian

Optelian designs and manufactures optical transport systems for telecom, multi-service operator (MSO), utility, and enterprise customers worldwide. Since 2002, many of the world’s largest telecommunications network operators have chosen Optelian for quick delivery, custom designs, and great service. Optelian’s carrier-grade system, LightGAIN, saves power and is easy to use. Compact LightGAIN systems support a full range of optical transport applications in all segments of the network.

Rundfunk-Anstalt Südtirol enhances Digital Terrestrial TV network with Net Insight’s Nimbra platform

Stockholm, Sweden - RAS expand and upgrade Nimbra- based DTT network in Südtirol, Italy.

RAS (Rundfunk-Anstalt Südtirol) is the public broadcasting company in Südtirol and distributes all the German speaking TV and radio broadcasts in this North Italian region. In the beginning of 2007, RAS selected Net Insight’s Nimbra platform for a small initial phase of its DTT network rollout and continued to expand during 2008.

Besides the main requirement for cost-efficient transport of ASI video streams and digital radio (DAB) with guaranteed quality of service, RAS was challenged with the topographical conditions of the mountainous region. Reliability was another crucial network design factor, which made RAS to deploy a fully redundant network with Nimbra 360 units.

RAS is now upgrading and extending the network with additional transmitter sites, now reaching about 30 transmitters in the area of Südtriol. Net Insight’s Nimbra Vision is also implemented for efficient network management and the unique Time Transfer feature for GPS-free time synchronization is installed in the network.

“The Nimbra platform enables us to easily and cost-efficiently transport multiple services in our network at the highest possible quality levels,” says Johann Silbernagl at RAS. “With the new Time Transfer feature we can also implement a Single Frequency Network. SFN networks are mandatory after the analog TV switch-off which is scheduled by the Italian Authority within November 2009 for the area Trentino-Südtirol.”

The Nimbra 360 was especially designed for digital terrestrial media networks and its unique multicast capabilities make it easy to distribute both digital TV and radio. DTT networks often require a Single Frequency Network (SFN) where the transmitter stations must be fully synchronized. The integrated Time Transfer feature of the Nimbra platform allows highly accurate distribution of real time over the same network that carries the video signals.

“We are delighted to support RAS in their continued network evolution,” says Fredrik TrägÃ¥rdh, CEO of Net Insight. “Our Time Transfer feature reduces the total network investment since GPS receivers are no longer needed at the transmitter sites improving the operating efficiency and reducing operating costs thanks to more reliable and secure operation.”

About Net Insight

Net Insight delivers the world’s most efficient and scalable optical transport solution for Broadcast and Media, Digital Terrestrial TV, Mobile TV and IPTV/CATV networks.

Innovative IxRave solution eliminates need for costly probes while attaining broad network and service visibility

Calabasas, CA – (March 24, 2009) – Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA) today announced the expansion of its award-winning IxRave IP Service Verification solution to include Carrier Ethernet and Mobile Backhaul. These capabilities extend IxRave’s VoIP, IPTV, MSO and Enterprise VPN services verification offerings. Service providers can now actively monitor, measure and troubleshoot their converged networks and services using a unified, affordable, centralized solution.

Until now, service providers were frequently limited to multiple, disconnected niche service monitoring tools that could only provide coverage for a portion of the network or service offerings. IxRave actively test all customers’ individual paths with the same type of traffic that they use, ensuring high quality of experience (QoE) and SLA conformance. The IxRave solution empowers service providers to cost effectively achieve broad network layer 2-7 visibility:

- Across IP service types (data, VoIP, IPTV, L3VPN)

- Across network types (DSL, FTTx, Cable/MSO, MPLS, Ethernet Backhaul)

- Across the service life cycle (service activation to proactive monitoring to fault isolation)

- Across demarcation points (customer premise to network edge to the service delivery

platform) and across all subscriber paths

Ixia was recognized by Frost & Sullivan as the market leader for Triple Play Test & Monitoring systems in 2009. IxRave leverages Ixia’s recognized technical leadership and proven test products for routers, switches and integrated multiplay systems. Through a unique architecture that combines Ixia’s centralized test engine, industry-standard embedded software agents, and low-cost appliances, IxRave provides broad end-to-end visibility with QoE metrics.

IxRave is an excellent solution for carriers offering video services because of its unique ability to measure customers’ QoE against pre-defined, objective metrics, including MOS-V and channel zap time. Using centralized test equipment, IxRave is able to access any video channel at any point across the access network, isolating problems to specific network segments. This helps service providers’ call centers often achieve first call resolution on technical issues.

“As access network elements are moved further into the field. (e.g. FTTx) it becomes even more important for carriers to have a cost efficient verification solution that provides full end-to-end coverage,” said Walker Colston, VP of Converged Monitoring. “Prior solutions in the service verification market either were narrowly focused or required a huge investment in test hardware for the access network elements—often resulting in insufficient network coverage. IxRave addresses these requirements in an integrated, scalable solution.”

Most competing products are complex and require IP experts to operate. IxRave’s advanced fault isolation capabilities are built into an intuitive user interface and tightly integrated with existing OSS data—empowering use by tier one call center agents while providing the details needed by tier two and three technicians.

“The blending of digital media and telecommunication services is creating highly sophisticated networks,” said Patrick Kelly of Analysys Mason. “CSPs are demanding fully functional assurance systems capable of supporting multi-service operations. Ixia IxRave provides both multi-service testing capabilities and does it across different technology domains.”

IxRave’s Carrier Ethernet solution leverages the carriers existing OSS system to provide 24×7 monitoring of both network and service quality (QoS and QoE). IxRave’s Mobile Backhaul solution provides service assurance for voice and data backhaul networks to help ensure better service level specification. IxRave offers a “save as you grow” pricing model that enables service providers to quickly deploy effective service verification and achieve tangible results for a modest up front investment with predictable growth.

For more information or to request a demonstration of IxRave, please go to the IxRave web site or visit us at IPTV World Forum, London, March 25-27 Stand # 34 or at the Frost & Sullivan OSS/BSS Summit in Singapore March 25-26. To view a video on IxRave and service verification, please go to

InnoPath Adds LTE Support to ActiveCare MDM Platform

This news lays the basis for true next-generation over-the-air management infrastructure. We’re excited about it. Before we dive further into our news, if you’re going to CTIA, we are too! In fact, InnoPath has been selected as a finalist in the 4G Service Management category for the 2009 CTIA E-Tech Awards. We’ll also be demonstrating our end-to-end ActiveCare solution at Booth 1090 on the 2 nd floor of the South Hall.

Onto the news… InnoPath announced yesterday that it is partnering with its Tier-1 operators globally as part of their planned LTE deployments. This game-changing technology lays the basis for a new mobile landscape, a true next-generation, over-the-air management infrastructure in support of activation and care, and provides a clean break from OMA-CP vendors and their now obsolete platforms. Recently, the GSMA has stated that more than 26 operators worldwide have committed to LTE, with more than 10 expected to launch commercial services by the end of 2010.

Pressures placed on operators with regard to bandwidth, service availability, device procurement and application/device stability, become front-and-center with mobile broadband. Many subscribers, both casual and business, will ‘un-tether,’ using their mobile devices or laptop data cards as their primary means of communication in a mobile broadband environment. They expect that applications will work as advertised, that their phone or laptop is properly configured, and that if they call in with a support problem, the frontline care agent is able to quickly troubleshoot the device, determine what is wrong, and take corrective action.

InnoPath’s ActiveCare server simultaneously supports CDMA, GSM, WiMAX and now LTE, effectively tying the circuit/SMS world with IP. This support leverages the extensibility of the platform as well as the company’s deep understanding of OMA-DM standards evolution and the deployment plans of its Tier-1 customers. Key elements of the company’s LTE support include:

- Activation – The InnoPath solution offers operators the ability to effectively detect, provision and customize devices over an IP-centric LTE network. It supports extensibility customized for a specific operator deployment, such as gathering the current SIP or IP address for client-server interaction.

- Device Support – The InnoPath solution supports both LTE-only devices as well as ‘dual-mode’ devices used in phased operator deployments. InnoPath only requires an OMA-DM client on the device which can be either pre-loaded or post-loaded into the mobile device. InnoPath ActiveCare is compatible with both planned FDD and TDD LTE (TD-LTE) deployments.

- Standards Evolution – InnoPath, drawing on its strong track record of innovation, is helping to drive the completion of DM 1.3 within OMA-DM. DM 1.3 provides for provisioning and management of native IP devices over-the-air by supporting non-SMS based bootstrap. Looking to the future, InnoPath is helping drive the definition of DM 2.0.

- Care – InnoPath’s complete ActiveCare capability set and Smart Client are deployable within LTE with a goal of reducing client – server network bandwidth, average call time and increasing customer satisfaction.
