FiberNet Telecom Group Selects Ekinops 360 Optical Transport

PARIS, May 19, 2009 – Ekinops, a leading provider of next generation dynamic multi-reach long-haul, regional, and metro transport aggregation solutions for service providers and enterprises, today announced that FiberNet Telecom Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: FTGX), a leading provider of complex interconnection services, has chosen the Ekinops 360 multi-reach optical transport system for the deployment of 10G and Gigabit Ethernet services.

FiberNet will utilize the Ekinops 360, a carrier class optical transport platform for metro, regional, and long-haul networks, to deliver 10 Gigabit services in the New York/New Jersey region and in Los Angeles.

Density, reliability and ease of management were cited as reasons FiberNet chose the Ekinops 360 platform. “We were looking for a high-density, reliable product for high-bandwidth 10 Gigabit services and we found that in the Ekinops 360,” said Ernie Hoffmann, senior vice president of engineering and operations for FiberNet Telecom Group.

“From the beginning, the Ekinops equipment has been easy to install, and its management system has been particularly user-friendly,” he continued. “Its reliability and ease of use has been great. We are now looking to Ekinops for Gigabit Ethernet and 2.5 Gigabit service aggregation as well.”

The attractive cost of the Ekinops equipment was also a factor in FiberNet’s decision, Hoffmann noted. “The volume of 10 Gigabit services has grown over the past year. For FiberNet to continue to meet our customers’ expectations, we need to provide world class service at a competitive price. The Ekinops 360 helps us achieve that goal.”

With its T-Chip “Transport on a Chip” technology foundation, the Ekinops 360 equipment packs its transport intelligence into a much smaller, more efficient design, reducing costs, footprint, ongoing power consumption, and manufacturing delivery times to service providers and enterprises.

“FiberNet chose the right partner in its search for a low-cost, reliable solution,” said Rob Adams, vice president of marketing for Ekinops. “With our T-Chip at the heart of all our equipment, we have been able to provide industry leading economics, minimize our footprint, reduce ongoing costs of power and management and deliver solutions quickly to FiberNet and our many other customers, allowing them to stay ahead of their competition.”

IntelePeer Earns Microsoft 2009 Best Solution Design Award for Communications-as-a-Service Within Windows Live

IntelePeer’s ReachLive Application Honored for Ability to Harness Potential of Cloud Computing

SAN MATEO, Calif. — May 19, 2009 — IntelePeer Inc., a leader in hosted on-demand rich media communications, announced today that its ReachLive application has been recognized by Microsoft as a Best Solution Design for Communications as a Service within Microsoft® Windows® Live. IntelePeer received the award at the Seventh Annual Microsoft Enterprise Developer and Industry Solutions Conference 2009, held at the New York Marriott Marquis.

“IntelePeer ReachLive taps into the true power of Microsoft Windows Live Services and the IntelePeer AppworX Open Communications Platform, and this award illustrates that potential,” said Charles Studt, vice president of product management for IntelePeer. “IntelePeer AppworX strips away the complexities of telecom for developers. Applications like ReachLive allow Web developers to quickly bring communications-enabled business services to market that reduce operational costs, drive productivity and open new revenue opportunities.”

IntelePeer’s ReachLive application allows Windows LiveID users to reach their contacts by phone or SMS as quickly and intuitively as instant messaging. This Web-based communication mash-up extends the reach of Microsoft Live Services to business or personal groups in a familiar Live Messenger-like interface. Users reach their contacts using the phone of their choice, SMS text messaging or live chat, and the user includes media or other rich content. With the powerful IntelePeer network and open communications platform, ReachLive easily brings contacts together in an ad-hoc conference call or as recipients of a SMS message or voice blast.

“By demonstrating the ability to combine Web services from multiple providers and hosting the application on a dynamically scaling infrastructure, IntelePeer was able to show how cloud computing will impact communications enabled applications in the not- so-distant future,” said Joseph Hofstader, architect, Microsoft Communications Sector group.

ReachLive combines a scalable network capable of reaching thousands of users with existing contact lists from Windows Live Services. For ReachLive users, phone numbers are removed and the user decides which phone number of theirs to ring. Phone calls are initiated like chats, which enables instant notification or collaboration with individuals and offers many of the benefits of cloud computing, including cost savings, flexibility and speed of deployment.

IntelePeer was honored alongside three other companies at the awards ceremony, which focused on computing at the speed of the cloud as well as what cloud computing offers: flexibility, low entry costs, and access to services and applications beyond the traditional computer loaded with applications. Winners of Microsoft’s award were named visionaries, taking cloud computing and designing ways to harness its potential.

Private Networking Made Simple, with Improved Performance and Reliability

RICHMOND, VA — May 19, 2009 — Cavalier, a leading provider of competitive telecommunications services throughout the eastern United States, today announced its Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS). Cavalier’s VPLS combines the simplicity of Ethernet with the intelligence of IP and the inherent security of MPLS in Cavalier’s core fiber network. VPLS is a next generation Layer 2 Ethernet service that allows customers’ geographically dispersed LANs to be meshed into a single-bridged Ethernet LAN, so all sites appear on the same network.

“This service satisfies some of the top IT priorities for our customers by offering simple and secure private networking at speeds from 1Mb to a Gigabit and higher,” said Lou Sommi, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Cavalier. “Customers are already comfortable working with Ethernet. Now they can use it to connect their locations over Cavalier’s powerful fiber network to support increasingly complex applications.”

Cavalier’s VPLS service offers:

  • Predictable service levels – Priority data must be delivered in a reliable and timely manner. VPLS offers flexible traffic flow planning using standard classes of service, providing end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) for mission critical applications such as transaction processing, voice and video.

  • Security – Customers’ VPLS traffic is completely contained within a dedicated Layer 2 switch domain with all routing done on the customers’ equipment.

  • High availability –VPLS ensures the availability and transmission of all applications. The service is fully meshed, using MPLS in the core network to achieve the fastest possible convergence time.

  • Scalability – Customers can quickly adapt to changing bandwidth and business requirements. Services grow easily without labor-intensive configuration changes.

  • Flexibility – Set up only one connection per site — no matter how many locations or services are being used. Customers can combine voice and multiple data applications onto their choice of network access options, including T1, Ethernet Express, DS3, SONET and Gigabit Ethernet.

About CavalierCavalier, headquartered in Virginia, is a full-service provider of reliable and efficient telecommunications solutions for business, consumer, and government customers.
