STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – August 25, 2009 – Edgeware, the provider of revolutionary server systems for on-demand TV, today announced that Iskon Internet d.d., a subsidiary of incumbent Telco T-Com Croatia, deployed Edgeware’s Orbit-2X server platform to deliver advanced on-demand IPTV services, including network Personal Video Recording (nPVR), catch-up of live TV and Video-on-Demand (VOD).
With Edgeware’s Orbit-2X server platform, Iskon´s nPVR service allows subscribers to record up to ten hours of live TV in the network, with a catch-up TV service that enables viewers to replay the last 48 hours of broadcasts from the four most popular TV-channels in Croatia. Iskon.TV, Iskon Internet’s IPTV service launched in April 2009, is now available in nine Croatian cities, offering over 40 TV channels and a number of converged triple play services.
“Edgeware’s state of the art server platform gives us an edge in offering market leading TV services,” said SaÅ¡a Kramar, CEO of Iskon. “The Orbit-2X system, which has native support to deliver all our on-demand services, allows us to easily and seamlessly add more capacity over time as our service grows, making Edgeware’s solution highly attractive from a cost perspective.”
Edgeware’s industry leading Orbit-2X platform enables the on-demand TV experience by targeting the key video delivery challenge: the bandwidth explosion driven by increased concurrency rates. Network congestion is cost-efficiently eliminated through intelligent content caching close to the viewers, and where central and distributed Edgeware servers act as one single, logical system. This system is scaled by adding servers in the network where they make the most economical sense.
Mikael Samuelsson, Vice President Channel Sales of Edgeware adds, “The time-shift capability offered by our highly scalable server solution paves the way for the paradigm shift to the all-on-demand TV future. Iskon is a good example of a customer who has seen where the market is going, and who offers an advanced nPVR service as part of its initial IPTV offering.”
Edgeware´s revolutionary server solution enables the all-on-demand TV experience by offering native support for on-demand TV, and by addressing the delivery challenges driven by these services.
The Edgeware solution enables Video On-Demand (VoD), Time Shifted TV, Live Webcasting, Web TV and Ad-insertion services with unmatched scalability and at the lowest investment and operational cost on the market.
In 2006, Edgeware launched the world´s first solid state flash memory server. By pioneering the use of flash memory, combined with hardware accelerated streaming, Edgeware offers the densest, most reliable and power efficient video servers in the industry. Bandwidth and QoS issues are cost-efficiently eliminated through intelligent content caching close to the viewers. This system is seamlessly scaled by adding servers in the network where they make the most economical sense.
