IXIA CHANGES THE ECONOMICS OF SERVICE VERIFICATION WITH CENTRALIZED SOLUTION FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS

Innovative IxRave solution eliminates need for costly probes while attaining broad network and service visibility

Calabasas, CA – (March 24, 2009) – Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA) today announced the expansion of its award-winning IxRave IP Service Verification solution to include Carrier Ethernet and Mobile Backhaul. These capabilities extend IxRave’s VoIP, IPTV, MSO and Enterprise VPN services verification offerings. Service providers can now actively monitor, measure and troubleshoot their converged networks and services using a unified, affordable, centralized solution.

Until now, service providers were frequently limited to multiple, disconnected niche service monitoring tools that could only provide coverage for a portion of the network or service offerings. IxRave actively test all customers’ individual paths with the same type of traffic that they use, ensuring high quality of experience (QoE) and SLA conformance. The IxRave solution empowers service providers to cost effectively achieve broad network layer 2-7 visibility:

- Across IP service types (data, VoIP, IPTV, L3VPN)

- Across network types (DSL, FTTx, Cable/MSO, MPLS, Ethernet Backhaul)

- Across the service life cycle (service activation to proactive monitoring to fault isolation)

- Across demarcation points (customer premise to network edge to the service delivery

platform) and across all subscriber paths

Ixia was recognized by Frost & Sullivan as the market leader for Triple Play Test & Monitoring systems in 2009. IxRave leverages Ixia’s recognized technical leadership and proven test products for routers, switches and integrated multiplay systems. Through a unique architecture that combines Ixia’s centralized test engine, industry-standard embedded software agents, and low-cost appliances, IxRave provides broad end-to-end visibility with QoE metrics.

IxRave is an excellent solution for carriers offering video services because of its unique ability to measure customers’ QoE against pre-defined, objective metrics, including MOS-V and channel zap time. Using centralized test equipment, IxRave is able to access any video channel at any point across the access network, isolating problems to specific network segments. This helps service providers’ call centers often achieve first call resolution on technical issues.

“As access network elements are moved further into the field. (e.g. FTTx) it becomes even more important for carriers to have a cost efficient verification solution that provides full end-to-end coverage,” said Walker Colston, VP of Converged Monitoring. “Prior solutions in the service verification market either were narrowly focused or required a huge investment in test hardware for the access network elements—often resulting in insufficient network coverage. IxRave addresses these requirements in an integrated, scalable solution.”

Most competing products are complex and require IP experts to operate. IxRave’s advanced fault isolation capabilities are built into an intuitive user interface and tightly integrated with existing OSS data—empowering use by tier one call center agents while providing the details needed by tier two and three technicians.

“The blending of digital media and telecommunication services is creating highly sophisticated networks,” said Patrick Kelly of Analysys Mason. “CSPs are demanding fully functional assurance systems capable of supporting multi-service operations. Ixia IxRave provides both multi-service testing capabilities and does it across different technology domains.”

IxRave’s Carrier Ethernet solution leverages the carriers existing OSS system to provide 24×7 monitoring of both network and service quality (QoS and QoE). IxRave’s Mobile Backhaul solution provides service assurance for voice and data backhaul networks to help ensure better service level specification. IxRave offers a “save as you grow” pricing model that enables service providers to quickly deploy effective service verification and achieve tangible results for a modest up front investment with predictable growth.

IXIA LAUNCHES INDUSTRY-LEADING VOIP TESTING WITH THE ABILITY TO EMULATE UP TO ONE MILLION CONCURRENT ENDPOINTS

Advanced Subscriber Modeling Allows Real-World, Carrier Grade, Class 5 VoIP Switch Emulation to Deliver Full Performance Testing for Large Scale VoIP Devices and Networks

Calabasas, California (March 4, 2009) Ixia, a leading supplier of IP test systems, today announced the next generation in residential and business VoIP testing. With its ultra-high performance, IxLoad™ Voice matches the capacity of modern media gateways with an unprecedented 1 million SIP- and RTP-based endpoints per chassis – five times the capacity of its nearest competing product. Ixia’s new Acceleron™-XP load module implements voice protocols with hardware to reach these major capacity milestones.

IxLoad tests VoIP network components, including IP-based PBXs, softswitches, call managers, session border controllers, and media gateways, using highly realistic scenarios involving multiple voice protocols, complex calling sequences, and triple-play mixes of voice, video and data traffic. IxLoad’s unique subscriber modeling emulates user communities that vary in service usage and timing. This approach yields performance results that accurately predict live-network capacity – allowing service providers to correctly provision their networks. Ixia supports all of the essential VoIP signaling and transmission protocols, including SIP, RTP, SCCP, MGCP, H.323, and H.248 – with complex call flows and Class 5 features.

After many years of isolated, small-scale consumer and business roll-outs, VoIP deployments have finally gone mainstream. Infonetics Research forecasts a 25% compound aggregate growth in residential and SOHO hosted VoIP subscribers through 2011, when they are expected to number over 187 million. To meet this growing demand, network equipment manufacturers must deliver VoIP devices that can handle more calls and a complex array of protocols and services. Both network equipment manufacturers and converged service providers of all sizes need to verify the performance and interoperability of new VoIP devices and networks, ensuring that they can handle complex, heavy VoIP traffic loads.

“VoIP protocols and technology may be well understood, but there are a host of potential problems when a high number of calls are mixed with large volumes of data and video traffic,” said Anupam Sahai, vice president of marketing at Ixia. “We developed our Acceleron-XP, VQM modules and IxLoad test application to emulate city-scale communities of real-world users – allowing our customers to discover and solve their device and network problems before their customers do.”

IxLoad emulates and tests security and network infrastructure protocols, including IPSec, PPP, DHCP and multiple forms of authentication. Voice call security is also supported by SIP/TLS and SRTP. Ixia’s VQM support module delivers real-time evaluation of end-user quality of experience (QoE), such as PESQ scores for 300 simultaneous calls – making it unnecessary to wait for time-consuming, post-test analysis. IxLoad facilitates rapid testing, refinement, troubleshooting and automation to maximize testing productivity.

“VoIP services have already been widely adopted by consumers and SOHOs, but we expect the next growth in adoption to come from SMBs.” said Matthias Machowinski, analyst at Infonetics. “For them, service reliability and voice quality will be key buying criteria. With Ixia’s new IxLoad Voice, service providers can comprehensively test their networks before they ramp up these high value subscribers, so that there are no surprises when subscribers are turned up.”

Ixia’s single platform approach, with a range of interfaces and targeted test applications, allows network equipment manufacturers, service providers and enterprises to ensure the quality and performance for all of their devices – individually and in combination. Ixia’s test applications cover conformance, performance, automation and live-network maintenance. Ixia’s IxRave provides service verification of deployed VoIP and other networks with active testing; its unique testing and mapping facility ensures VoIP problems are quickly isolated to a geographical area or home.

With Ixia’s IxLoad Voice, NEMs bring their products to market faster, and service providers and enterprises can be sure that their deployments meet their capacity and responsiveness needs. IxLoad Voice allows service providers to evaluate components and provision their networks with confidence – eliminating expensive network degradation and down-time. IxLoad Voice is available immediately and will be demonstrated at IPTV World Forum in London from March 23rd to the 25th, in stand #34.

Four Major Middle Eastern Mobile Carriers Deploy Ditech Networks’ Voice Quality Platform

Ditech helps maximize network capacity and ensure wireless call quality as rapid-growth carriers transition to IP networks

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., December 15, 2008 – Ditech Networks (Nasdaq: DITC), a leading provider of voice quality solutions to the world’s communications industry, announced today that its industry-leading voice processing platforms are now deployed by four major mobile operators in the Middle East region.  Algerian carrier Djezzy, Pakistan’s Mobilink and Egypt’s Mobinil, some of the chief carriers in the area, are implementing Ditech’s Voice Quality Assurance (VQA) solution to provide their subscribers with superior mobile call quality without purchasing additional spectrum or network infrastructure, a common issue in this region. In developing markets such as the Middle East, new mobile service plans are being sold at an incredibly fast pace. Unfortunately, while promising for local economies, rapid increases in subscribership can have a negative impact on voice quality. In Ditech’s 2008 audit of over 630 million wireless calls worldwide, developing markets including the Middle East were plagued with poor voice quality on 59 percent of all calls.   To quickly and cost-effectively accommodate new users, many carriers implement low bit-rate or half-rate codecs.  In the presence of background noise or during peak calling periods, however, this tactic can seriously impact the call experience. Rapid-growth carriers like Djezzy and Mobinil have adopted Ditech’s VQA to help maximize their network capacity while maintaining voice quality for subscribers. Additionally, Ditech can offer mobile carriers voice quality solutions for 2G/TDM networks and the more advanced 3G, IP, LTE or WiMAX networks. This enables growing mobile carriers to provide superior voice quality over their 2G/TDM networks as well as next-generation networks.  This eases migration for carriers by alleviating the need to deal with several different vendors for each technology. Ditech’s voice quality products allow them to operate hybrid networks, which frequently occurs when deploying new technologies or services throughout a network. “Carriers in the Middle East have numerous challenges to overcome in maintaining a differentiated service for their customers, namely, high subscriber growth, varying customer requirements, and diverse geographies,” said Karl Brown, VP of Marketing for Ditech Networks.  “We are proud to play a key role in balancing the region’s mobile growth with providing superior voice quality to customers.” Ditech’s VQA solution is available on the Ditech’s Broadband Voice Processor (BVP) Flex and Packet Voice Processor (PVP) voice processing platforms, which provide a high-density, high-performance foundation for processing the large number of calls that traverse carrier networks. Both platforms are highly adaptable and easily reconfigured or upgraded while in service to meet operations needs or to accommodate new technologies carriers may want to deploy.

About Ditech Networks Ditech Networks is shaping the future of voice quality through continuous innovation and leadership for the world’s communications companies. Ditech’s voice quality solutions are deployed in wireless and wireline networks to optimize the call experience. By delivering consistent, dependable voice quality, Ditech’s products help global communications companies meet the multiple challenges of service differentiation, network expansion and call capacity. Ditech’s customers include Verizon, Sprint/Nextel, Orascom Telecom, AT&T, China Unicom, Global Crossing and West Corporation. Ditech Networks is headquartered in Mountain View, California.
