Mobile Tag and JCDecaux enhance the Parisian ‘Quartier Numérique’ with their new flashcode service: Mobilités

Atlanta, July 28, 2009 – 2D mobile barcode leader, Mobile Tag, announces today that it has been selected by JCDecaux as the technological partner to deploy flashcodes (2D barcodes) on bus shelters within the Quartier Numérique* (Digital Area) in Paris, France. This new flashcode service called Mobilités will enhance the Quartier Numérique by offering both Parisians and tourist access to external content via mobile phones already equipped with the Internet.

To develop this service, JCDecaux chose to adopt Mobile Tag’s technology, which enables users to explore Paris simply by accessing a mobile Internet portal. The 19 JCDecaux bus shelters located in the Quartier Numérique now give instant access to practical, historical, cultural and entertaining content using flashcodes.

To obtain content, users simply shoot one of the flashcodes (2D barcodes) located on either side of the bus shelter with their mobile phone’s camera which then gives instant access to the mobile portal via their Internet connection.

Mobile Tag is the European leader for 2D barcode technology and services. With a mobile phone’s camera, the mobiletag application enables users to shoot 2D barcodes that integrate Internet-based services and multimedia content (music, photo and video), as well as other mobile phone functions.

The mobiletag application allows users to receive cultural and historical content created exclusively for JCDecaux by Les Guides Gallimard (Gallimard Guides). Travelers in Paris can also visit the mobile site ‘Ma RATP dans la poche’ for regular transport updates, a route planner and maps, and can consult the Ville de Paris (City of Paris) official calendar of cultural events.

Christian Francois Viala, Marketing Director for Mobile Tag, comments: “This is an important moment for Mobile Tag and flashcode deployment – the Mobilités service offers great visibility for 2D barcodes. We plan to develop this offer with additional services, giving Mobilités the chance to grow and become part of the day-to-day lives of Parisians.”

Volubill Simplifies Mobile Data Charging and Policy Control for Orange Botswana

Volubill Simplifies Mobile Data Charging and Policy Control for Orange Botswana

Volubill solution boosts personalization, flexibility of prepaid and postpaid mobile services charging operations

London, United Kingdom—21 July 2009—Volubill, a leading supplier of real-time convergent charging and policy control applications for fixed and mobile service providers, today announced an important win and successful deployment with one of Botswana’s largest mobile providers, Orange Botswana. Volubill’s CHARGE-ITâ„¢ platform was selected to unify charging and access control for all Mobile Broadband access, Web and WAP browsing, downloads, MMS and e-mail services, thus enabling more flexible and personalized service pricing and bundling options across the provider’s fast growing customer base.

Orange Botswana, incorporated in 2003, is the leading national provider of telecommunication services in Botswana, providing both postpaid and prepaid mobile services to individuals and businesses including a full range of voice and data services. Orange Botswana is experiencing high demand for their data services on the back of their iPhone launch and competitive Mobile Broadband access offerings. Orange Botswana is now also able to offer customers highly flexible charging options. Orange Botswana also enables subscribers to purchase additional prepaid credit directly from their phones and transfer airtime to other prepaid subscribers.

The recent liberalization of Botswana’s telecommunications market, combined with continued heavy subscriber growth in the region has produced intense levels of competition among Botswana’s service providers. The country now has the greatest market penetration for mobile services per capita of any country in Africa. In Orange Botswana’s case, this growth presents tremendous opportunity and hence enhancing their ability to offer high quality of experience and interesting pricing packages across multiple service types is a smart market move. The choice of Volubill’s CHARGE-IT by Orange Botswana shows that providers are meeting these demands by choosing charging and policy solutions that can increase their options for market segmentation as well as service management and monetization.

Volubill’s solution is network independent and provides flexible, vendor-agnostic support to adapt to all data and service architectures. It handles subscriber usage of IP services including data (mobile broadband), content, messaging, VoIP and downloads, and provides capabilities like deep packet inspection (DPI), access control, policy management and traffic shaping, and user experience management for both simple Internet access or content-rich premium services. When partnered with Volubill’s CONTROL-ITâ„¢ product, CHARGE-ITâ„¢ enables end-to-end real-time control, charging and policy management for advanced services.

“Botswana’s telecommunications market has grown so fast that operators like Orange Botswana are encountering many of the operational challenges that more established-market providers have been facing for years,” said John Aalbers, CEO, Volubill. “In choosing CHARGE-IT for increased control of pricing and charging policies for advanced service packages, Orange Botswana is better equipped to continue providing a high quality experience and compelling pricing packages to their subscribers. We are proud to have established this partnership with Orange Botswana to help them meet their ongoing business goals.”

IntelePeer Expands Next-Generation Voice Network With Sonus Networks

Sonus Networks, Inc. (SONS), providing network transformation through IP communications technology, today announced that IntelePeer, Inc., a leader in hosted on-demand rich media and IP communications, has expanded its Sonus based network to accommodate the growth of IP voice traffic. The expansion provides a significant increase in IP capacity across IntelePeer’s network nodes, doubling the number of sessions available for IP traffic. IntelePeer selected a Sonus based network to support its fully managed, hosted, on-demand voice peering infrastructure in 2006 and since then has seen IP traffic entering its network more than double.

IntelePeer’s continued growth is in large part due to their ability to be flexible and respond to market needs for high quality, cost effective communication services. To support their growth, IntelePeer has chosen the Sonus Network Border Switch as a standalone session border control (SBC) solution, for secure IP-peering, session control and media management. This will allow IntelePeer to offer additional services including media transcoding that extend the reach of its robust and scalable Voice Peering Network to both newer IP and legacy TDM connectivity.

“Today, IP voice traffic entering our network represents about 60% of all traffic and we expect an upward trend in IP-based traffic to continue for the foreseeable future as additional networks join our peering grid infrastructure,” said Phillip Bronsdon, senior vice president engineering and operations at IntelePeer. “The Sonus platform has proven to be robust, secure and scalable, and the support provided by the Sonus professional services team has enabled us to quickly respond to changing market needs and grow our business to offer new voice and IP services to our carrier and enterprise customers.”

“Like many service providers, IntelePeer needs to manage the changing mix of TDM and IP traffic seamlessly, efficiently and cost effectively within the same network,” said Shailin Sehgal, vice president, product management and marketing at Sonus Networks. “The Sonus solution is flexible and can be integrated with the media gateway function or used independently. In today’s cost conscious environment we believe that this approach provides a more cost effective way to transform carrier networks to all IP.”

The IntelePeer network began carrying live traffic on the Sonus platform in late 2006. It has deployed the full suite of Sonus solutions, including the GSX9000(TM) Media Gateway, the PSX(TM) Call Routing Server, the SGX(TM) Signaling Gateway, the Sonus Insight(TM) Management System and the Sonus Network Border Switch (NBS). It is now routing all traffic using the Sonus platform in conjunction with its SuperRegistry(TM) and Voice Peering Network services.

About IntelePeer

IntelePeer,, a leader in hosted on-demand rich media communications, enables carriers, businesses and software vendors to easily deliver voice and multimedia capabilities to any phone or network-connected device — without incurring up-front capital costs. Through our innovative, communications-as-a-service (CaaS) platform, IntelePeer AppworX(TM), our SuperRegistry(TM) and our extensive Voice Peering Network, we provide our customers with the platform to offer high-quality interactive voice, video, SMS, data and other rich-media services while providing significant cost savings for their telecommunication expenditures. Through intuitive APIs, Web Services, and brandable widgets and applets, IntelePeer removes the complexity of telecom and opens network functions to mainstream developers who are creating voice-Web “mashups” and communications-enabled business processes embedded into enterprise, webcasting, social networking, entertainment and e-commerce applications. Business professionals who use customer relationship management (CRM) software and common desktop applications such as calendaring and contact management also rely on us for instant access to bridge-to-services, voice blast, video blast, text-to-speech, conferencing and other features that enable communications-enhanced business processes that drive efficiency and deliver cost savings. Based in San Mateo, Calif., we operate our own carrier-grade network carrying more than 7 billion minutes, with worldwide coverage delivered through an IP and TDM peering grid with over 50 leading service provider peering partners. IntelePeer is privately held and is backed by venture capital firms VantagePoint Venture Partners, Kennet Venture Partners, NorthCap Partners and EDF Ventures.
