InnoPath Adds LTE Support to ActiveCare MDM Platform

This news lays the basis for true next-generation over-the-air management infrastructure. We’re excited about it. Before we dive further into our news, if you’re going to CTIA, we are too! In fact, InnoPath has been selected as a finalist in the 4G Service Management category for the 2009 CTIA E-Tech Awards. We’ll also be demonstrating our end-to-end ActiveCare solution at Booth 1090 on the 2 nd floor of the South Hall.

Onto the news… InnoPath announced yesterday that it is partnering with its Tier-1 operators globally as part of their planned LTE deployments. This game-changing technology lays the basis for a new mobile landscape, a true next-generation, over-the-air management infrastructure in support of activation and care, and provides a clean break from OMA-CP vendors and their now obsolete platforms. Recently, the GSMA has stated that more than 26 operators worldwide have committed to LTE, with more than 10 expected to launch commercial services by the end of 2010.

Pressures placed on operators with regard to bandwidth, service availability, device procurement and application/device stability, become front-and-center with mobile broadband. Many subscribers, both casual and business, will ‘un-tether,’ using their mobile devices or laptop data cards as their primary means of communication in a mobile broadband environment. They expect that applications will work as advertised, that their phone or laptop is properly configured, and that if they call in with a support problem, the frontline care agent is able to quickly troubleshoot the device, determine what is wrong, and take corrective action.

InnoPath’s ActiveCare server simultaneously supports CDMA, GSM, WiMAX and now LTE, effectively tying the circuit/SMS world with IP. This support leverages the extensibility of the platform as well as the company’s deep understanding of OMA-DM standards evolution and the deployment plans of its Tier-1 customers. Key elements of the company’s LTE support include:

- Activation – The InnoPath solution offers operators the ability to effectively detect, provision and customize devices over an IP-centric LTE network. It supports extensibility customized for a specific operator deployment, such as gathering the current SIP or IP address for client-server interaction.

- Device Support – The InnoPath solution supports both LTE-only devices as well as ‘dual-mode’ devices used in phased operator deployments. InnoPath only requires an OMA-DM client on the device which can be either pre-loaded or post-loaded into the mobile device. InnoPath ActiveCare is compatible with both planned FDD and TDD LTE (TD-LTE) deployments.

- Standards Evolution – InnoPath, drawing on its strong track record of innovation, is helping to drive the completion of DM 1.3 within OMA-DM. DM 1.3 provides for provisioning and management of native IP devices over-the-air by supporting non-SMS based bootstrap. Looking to the future, InnoPath is helping drive the definition of DM 2.0.

- Care – InnoPath’s complete ActiveCare capability set and Smart Client are deployable within LTE with a goal of reducing client – server network bandwidth, average call time and increasing customer satisfaction.

Spirent Supports New CTIA A-GPS Over The Air (OTA) Test Standard with Integrated Solution

Spirent Communications, a global leader in mobile device, application and wireless network testing, today announced that ETS-Lindgren’s EMQuestâ„¢ Antenna Measurement Software now supports Spirent’s UMTS Location Test System (ULTS). ETS-Lindgren is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of enclosed Radio Frequency (RF) chambers and antenna measurement solutions for wireless test applications.

This new capability will enable wireless device manufacturers to quickly and easily add Spirent’s market-leading A-GPS instrumentation to ETS-Lindgren’s over the air (OTA) wireless test solutions, streamlining efforts to meet emerging standards for wireless device A-GPS performance.  The combined offering of Spirent’s A-GPS instrumentation and ETS-Lindgren’s OTA test facilities, antennas, and EMQuest software provide wireless device manufacturers with the ability to test their products in compliance with the upcoming 3.0 release of the CTIA’s Test Plan for Mobile Station Over the Air Performance. The requirements of this new release will become mandatory at all CTIA Authorized Test Labs that perform OTA testing.

“We are delighted that the Spirent ULTS solution is now supported by ETS-Lindgren. It is a natural step to link Spirent’s market leadership in A-GPS testing with ETS-Lindgren’s leadership in wireless OTA test solutions,” said Ron Borsato, solutions architect at Spirent Communications, who also chairs the CTIA’s GPS OTA Subgroup. “The large percentage of CTIA Authorized Test Labs that use ETS-Lindgren’s OTA solutions for testing GSM and UMTS devices now have a straightforward upgrade path to add A-GPS OTA support.”

Poor GPS antenna performance often leads to a disappointing user experience of location-based services (LBS) which can reflect negatively on operators’ revenues. However, adding a GPS antenna to a densely-packed mobile device form factor can be a major challenge. Because the industry’s existing certification standards for A-GPS do not include OTA testing, performance issues due to the GPS antenna are not always caught prior to commercial deployment. This has led the CTIA to broaden the scope of its existing Test Plan for Mobile Station Over the Air Performance to include A-GPS.

Built upon the expertise gained from Spirent’s Position Location Test System (PLTS), launched into the CDMA market in 2001, the ULTS was the first commercially-available UMTS A-GPS test system. Since then, most of the world’s largest network operators, together with all the major mobile device and A-GPS chipset manufacturers, have relied on the Spirent ULTS to design, test and certify their LBS solutions.

Demonstrations of Spirent ULTS and other wireless device, application and infrastructure testing solutions from Spirent will be held at Booth #744 at CTIA Wireless 2009, April 1-3, Las Vegas, NV. For more information visit www.spirent.com/go/ults

AirWalk Communications Introduces Powerful, Compact Enterprise Femtocell, the EdgePoint PRO

RICHARDSON, Texas, March 17, 2009 – AirWalk Communications, an innovator in IP-based cellular radio network equipment, today introduced its EdgePointâ„¢ PRO, a compact enterprise femtocell that brings optimal cellular service to enterprise offices and other in-building facilities.

AirWalk announced EdgePoint PRO in advance of the CTIA Wireless 2009 conference, where AirWalk will demonstrate the new unit in Booth 8127 during the April 1-3 event in Las Vegas.

EdgePoint PRO is designed to assure mobile phone users secure continuous coverage and mobility in a variety of enterprise settings, regardless of the location’s proximity to the macro cellular network. The unit acts as a cellular access point and plugs directly into an existing broadband connection to extend 3G wireless CDMA services for voice and data. The EdgePoint PRO leverages the enterprise’s broadband link for backhaul which reduces operators’ capital expenditures and maximizes macro network efficiencies.

With the 1xEV-DO EdgePoint PRO, enterprises have a viable alternative to a WiFi network. Users are able to use their existing mobile phone or laptop with data aircard to access high-speed data. In addition, the EdgePoint PRO in 1xRTT allows users to rely on their mobile device as their primary phone both inside and outside their workplace.

“Operators are showing remarkable interest in EdgePoint PRO because it is an affordable and reliable solution for cellular-challenged indoor settings where the macro network simply cannot accommodate coverage requirements,” said Serge Pequeux, president and CEO of AirWalk. “EdgePoint PRO can contribute to cellular usage by extending seamless service into the enterprise. In-building minutes of use are offered at a fixed rate while supporting additional enterprise voice and data applications.”

“A totally untapped market to date is the one for enterprise femtocells,” observed Allen Nogee, Principal Analyst for In-Stat. “These devices will not only allow both small and large businesses to provide a better wireless signal for their employees, but also to offer wireless/PBX integration at a level never before possible.”

EdgePoint PRO has an unrivaled clustering feature that assures soft handoff between multiple units and the macro network. A single EdgePoint PRO supports up to 28 users with 200mW of power. It is available in 1xRTT or 1xEV-DO Rev. A, and it is available as a wall mount or rack mount unit. EdgePoint PRO integrates the base transceiver station (BTS), base station controller (BSC), packet control function (PCF), and operations and maintenance (O&M).

In 2008, AirWalk introduced its residential and small office femtocell, the EdgePoint.

Agito Networks Named “Cool Vendor” by Leading Analyst Firm

Vendors Selected for the “Cool Vendors in Unified Communications” Report are Innovative, Impactful and Intriguing

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – March 17, 2009 – Agito Networks, Inc., the company delivering new technology in enterprise mobility, today announced that it has been included in the list of “Cool Vendors” in the “Cool Vendors in Unified Communications, 2009” report (Bern Elliot, et al., March 12, 2009) by Gartner, Inc.

According to the Gartner, Inc., report, “Unified communications (UC) technology is evolving rapidly, and many new and innovative solutions are appearing.  Enterprises struggle to bring new, useful UC solutions to their diverse user bases, while containing costs and leveraging existing infrastructure and application investments.  Enterprises are finally taking cell phones seriously and want to incorporate them into their telephony systems.” 1

“We are excited to have been named to Gartner’s ‘Cool Vendor’ listing,” said Pejman Roshan, Agito Networks vice president of marketing and product management.  “We believe this is confirmation of our differentiated approach to enterprise mobile convergence, which integrates location and other innovations in effectively mobilizing UC applications, while supporting the broadest set enterprise infrastructure and mobile devices.  We believe that the enterprises we sell into greatly value Gartner’s opinion of vendors, so this listing is significant to us as we rapidly expand in 2009.”

Agito Networks’ award-winning RoamAnywhere Mobility Router uniquely fuses WiFi, cellular, IP telephony, and location information, improving the accessibility and responsiveness of mobile workers, while drastically reducing mobile costs (http://www.agitonetworks.com/products).  RoamAnywhere mobilizes voice and unified communications for enterprises of all sizes, extending PBX and deskphone features to mobile phones.  In addition, RoamAnywhere provides industry-leading handover between WiFi and cellular networks to reduce cellular costs and improve in-building coverage.  Purpose-built for the enterprise, RoamAnywhere uniquely offers high availability, redundancy, security, enterprise scalability, and the industry’s broadest mobile handset and IP-PBX support.  It works with all cellular network technology, and natively integrates with enterprises’ existing equipment, including WLAN infrastructure and directory stores.

About Gartner’s Cool Vendors Selection Process

Gartner’s listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services.  Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose.

Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: Innovative, enable users to do things they couldn’t do before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have caught Gartner’s interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.

 About Agito Networks

Agito Networks is the award-winning technology leader in enterprise mobility.  Its product, the RoamAnywhere Mobility Router, is an innovative enterprise fixed mobile convergence (eFMC) platform enabling enterprises to extend voice and Unified Communications to cell phones.  RoamAnywhere is the first and only network appliance that fuses enterprise wireless LANs, carrier cellular networks, IP telephony and location technology to mobilize voice and data applications, while remaining agnostic to customers’ choices of carrier and equipment vendors.  Agito enables low-cost in-building voice coverage, reduced cellular costs, improved enterprise visibility and control over cellular usage, and better accessibility and responsiveness for mobile workers.  A Red Herring 100 winner, Agito was included in the list of “Cool Vendors” in Gartner’s “Cool Vendors in Unified Communications, 2009” report, and was named a Coolest Emerging Technology Vendor by CRN.  RoamAnywhere has also received numerous industry awards, including being named one of the Top 10 Products of the Year by eWEEK, and earning Product of the Year honors from Unified Communications and Internet Telephony magazines.  Agito’s CTO was also named one of the year’s Best CTOs by InfoWorld.  Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif., the company is venture backed by Battery Ventures, Castile Ventures and ITX International.  Go to http://www.agitonetworks.com for more information.

Agito Networks Announces European Availability of its Enterprise-Grade Mobile Convergence Products for Enhanced Mobile UC

European Presence Headed by Former Juniper Networks EMEA VP to Provide Customers with Improved Mobile Voice and Unified Communications, Expanded Wireless Coverage and Reduced Mobile Costs

READING, UK – March 9, 2009 – Agito Networks, Inc., the company delivering new technology in enterprise mobility, today announced the availability of its award-winning RoamAnywhere Mobility Router in Europe.  The RoamAnywhere Mobility Router is the industry’s most powerful enterprise fixed mobile convergence (eFMC) product, purpose built for enterprises to help them increase mobile worker productivity while reducing mobile costs.

Agito Networks has also announced the appointment of Paul Donovan, former VP, EMEA – Global, Strategic and Verticals for Juniper Networks, as its Vice President of European Business and Market Development.

Agito Networks’ award-winning RoamAnywhere Mobility Router enables enterprises of all sizes to drastically reduce their mobile expenses with dynamic least cost routing and use of VoIP over WLAN.  The Agito solution extends IP Telephony and Unified Communications capabilities to mobile phones, providing mobile workers with their deskphone and desktop UC capabilities anywhere, ensuring greater productivity and enabling collaboration inside and outside the office.  The Agito solution accomplishes this by uniquely fusing WiFi, mobile carrier networks, IP telephony, and location information, operating on any and all mobile carrier networks, and natively integrating with enterprises’ existing equipment, including WLAN infrastructure and directory stores (http://www.agitonetworks.com/products).  In addition, RoamAnywhere provides industry-leading <100 ms, automatic handover between WiFi and the mobile network to reduce mobile costs and improve in-building coverage.  Purpose-built for the enterprise, RoamAnywhere uniquely offers high availability, redundancy, security, enterprise scalability, and the industry’s broadest mobile handset and IP-PBX support.

Agito offers the broadest handset and PBX support of any solution in the space, including European support for Alcatel and Shortel PBXs in addition to existing support for Cisco, Avaya, Microsoft, Nortel and Asterisk IP-PBXs.  It has qualified support for more than 35 different types of handsets from Nokia and those running Windows Mobile 6 Standard and Professional operating systems.  Unlike other eFMC solutions that require enterprises to tamper with their enterprise route plans and desk phones during deployment, Agito, with its line-side capabilities, integrates seamlessly into existing customer networks, requiring no changes to the ecosystem.

“In a lot of enterprises, people are using their mobile phone as their primary phone, instead of their deskphone,” said Gaetan Claeys, Business Development Manager Mobility at Dimension Data.  “Many companies today are thinking of using dual mode phones and are looking for a solution such as Agito to reduce and better control cellular charges and roaming charges, save money by not having to buy deskphones for some users, and improve reachability of users.  Agito’s solution will help our customers better control and reduce their cellular charges while offering to end users enterprise-class features on their mobile device.  As a network integrator with strong expertise in both wireless technology and unified communications, we are now uniquely positioned in the market to provide our customers with complete enterprise mobile telephony solutions.”

RoamAnywhere offers European customers Dynamic Least Cost Routing, which uses patent-pending algorithms to determine how best to route mobile calls, enterprise calls and country-to-country calls, resulting in significant savings.  For global workforces, RoamAnywhere intelligently re-directs international calls through the enterprise PBX with no user involvement, reducing international charges by a factor of 10 or more in most cases.  For in-building “corridor warriors” and telecommuters, the Mobility Router intelligently routes business calls through high-quality home, hotspot or enterprise Wi-Fi networks, off-loading mobile minutes from cellular to the WLAN.

Among other features, Agito’s RoamAnywhere introduces into Europe Secure Remote Voice, a first-of-its-kind capability that addresses the challenges of poor in-building mobile coverage outside the enterprise by delivering a secure voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) connection from Wi-Fi networks in homes, hotels and public hotspots.   While other solutions send VoIP traffic unencrypted over the Internet, the RoamAnywhere client uses an application-layer SSL connection to secure VoWLAN from non-enterprise networks.  Users can now realize the cost savings for international roaming as well as enhanced voice quality that VoWLAN provides, in addition to the increased responsiveness of having enterprise PBX connectivity, in a simple-to-use, secure solution.  Secure Remote Voice supports all of Agito’s industry-leading capabilities remotely, including sub-100ms secure handover between Wi-Fi and mobile carrier networks, and access to corporate directories – all without a mobile data plan, which other solutions require.

“Agito is the most scalable and redundant solution that I’ve seen on the market,” said Mr. Claeys.  “It uses proactive handover techniques while most other solutions are only reactive, and the local routing capabilities are very important for companies looking to reduce cellular charges.  It has a very beautiful product interface which is easy to configure, easy to use, and provides a lot of monitoring capabilities.  In addition to the unique Secure Remote Voice functionality, what impresses me the most about Agito is that the system was easy to setup and all IP-PBX features were working in a minute.”

“Agito Networks has garnered its share of industry accolades and customer traction in the U.S., and I’m seeing significant interest from European end users and channel partners alike,” said Mr. Donovan.  “Mobile operators have yet to solve their issues with FMC or deliver enterprise mobility to their customers, paving the way for Agito.  I’m excited to join the company and benefit from the clear greenfield opportunities here in Europe to deliver robust enterprise convergence mobilizing enterprises’ unified communications and voice applications.”

 Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the RoamAnywhere solution starts at approximately £ 6,960 for the 2000 Series and £ 19,150 for the 4000 Series.  It is available today directly and through leading UK-based channel partners.  Contact Agito Networks at http://www.agitonetworks.com for more information.

Calabasas, California (March 4, 2009) Ixia, a leading supplier of IP test systems, today announced the next generation in residential and business VoIP testing. With its ultra-high performance, IxLoadâ„¢ Voice matches the capacity of modern media gateways with an unprecedented 1 million SIP- and RTP-based endpoints per chassis – five times the capacity of its nearest competing product. Ixia’s new Acceleronâ„¢-XP load module implements voice protocols with hardware to reach these major capacity milestones.

IxLoad tests VoIP network components, including IP-based PBXs, softswitches, call managers, session border controllers, and media gateways, using highly realistic scenarios involving multiple voice protocols, complex calling sequences, and triple-play mixes of voice, video and data traffic. IxLoad’s unique subscriber modeling emulates user communities that vary in service usage and timing. This approach yields performance results that accurately predict live-network capacity – allowing service providers to correctly provision their networks. Ixia supports all of the essential VoIP signaling and transmission protocols, including SIP, RTP, SCCP, MGCP, H.323, and H.248 – with complex call flows and Class 5 features.

After many years of isolated, small-scale consumer and business roll-outs, VoIP deployments have finally gone mainstream. Infonetics Research forecasts a 25% compound aggregate growth in residential and SOHO hosted VoIP subscribers through 2011, when they are expected to number over 187 million. To meet this growing demand, network equipment manufacturers must deliver VoIP devices that can handle more calls and a complex array of protocols and services. Both network equipment manufacturers and converged service providers of all sizes need to verify the performance and interoperability of new VoIP devices and networks, ensuring that they can handle complex, heavy VoIP traffic loads.

“VoIP protocols and technology may be well understood, but there are a host of potential problems when a high number of calls are mixed with large volumes of data and video traffic,” said Anupam Sahai, vice president of marketing at Ixia. “We developed our Acceleron-XP, VQM modules and IxLoad test application to emulate city-scale communities of real-world users – allowing our customers to discover and solve their device and network problems before their customers do.”

IxLoad emulates and tests security and network infrastructure protocols, including IPSec, PPP, DHCP and multiple forms of authentication. Voice call security is also supported by SIP/TLS and SRTP. Ixia’s VQM support module delivers real-time evaluation of end-user quality of experience (QoE), such as PESQ scores for 300 simultaneous calls – making it unnecessary to wait for time-consuming, post-test analysis. IxLoad facilitates rapid testing, refinement, troubleshooting and automation to maximize testing productivity.

“VoIP services have already been widely adopted by consumers and SOHOs, but we expect the next growth in adoption to come from SMBs.” said Matthias Machowinski, analyst at Infonetics. “For them, service reliability and voice quality will be key buying criteria. With Ixia’s new IxLoad Voice, service providers can comprehensively test their networks before they ramp up these high value subscribers, so that there are no surprises when subscribers are turned up.”

Ixia’s single platform approach, with a range of interfaces and targeted test applications, allows network equipment manufacturers, service providers and enterprises to ensure the quality and performance for all of their devices – individually and in combination. Ixia’s test applications cover conformance, performance, automation and live-network maintenance. Ixia’s IxRave provides service verification of deployed VoIP and other networks with active testing; its unique testing and mapping facility ensures VoIP problems are quickly isolated to a geographical area or home.

With Ixia’s IxLoad Voice, NEMs bring their products to market faster, and service providers and enterprises can be sure that their deployments meet their capacity and responsiveness needs. IxLoad Voice allows service providers to evaluate components and provision their networks with confidence – eliminating expensive network degradation and down-time. IxLoad Voice is available immediately and will be demonstrated at IPTV World Forum in London from March 23rd to the 25th, in stand #34.

CALTRANS and California Highway Patrol Utilize Proxim Wireless and ICx Technologies for Life-Saving “Fog Pilot” Project

CALTRANS and California Highway Patrol Utilize Proxim Wireless and ICx Technologies for Life-Saving “Fog Pilot” Project

Integrated Weather Detection and Traffic Safety System to Reduce Deadly Accidents Caused by Fog and Extreme Weather

Proxim Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ: PRXM), a leading provider of end-to-end broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play, today announced that the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) and California Highway Patrol (CHP) are utilizing technology from Proxim Wireless and ICx Technologies (NASDAQ: ICXT) for an innovative system designed to reduce the frequency and severity of car crashes caused by fog and extreme weather. The “Fog Pilot” project is a comprehensive fog and reduced-speed warning system that will help protect motorists along a 12-mile stretch of freeway along State Route (SR) 99 in California’s Central Valley. This particular stretch of freeway is notorious for dangerous fog conditions, and was the site of a deadly 86-car collision in November of 2007.

“The combination of harsh fog conditions and irresponsible driving often result in deadly multi-vehicle accidents along this stretch of road,” said Central Division CHP Chief Jim Abrames. “This system will play a key role in identifying and alerting drivers to dangerous conditions, empowering them with the information necessary to take precaution and, ultimately, to save lives.”

As fog conditions increase in severity, traffic speeds tend to decrease rapidly. When you combine the rapid decrease in traffic speeds with decreased visibility, it makes it easy for faster traffic coming into heavy fog zones to collide with the slower traffic that they cannot see. The Fog Pilot system keeps drivers updated on upcoming speeds and visibility conditions in advance, so that drivers can slow down and adjust their driving as necessary.

The Fog Pilot system, which was completed at the end of the year and is now operational, integrates multiple technologies including weather detection stations, microwave vehicle/motion detectors, visibility sensors, closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and changeable message signs. All of these components communicate and are connected wirelessly via Proxim’s Tsunamiâ„¢ MP.11 5054 base stations and 5012 subscriber units, which utilize high performance, license-free WiMAX technology to wirelessly transmit the large amount of data generated by the multiple components.  All of this data and all of the components in the system are centrally managed and controlled by ICx’s Cameleon ITS Transportation Management Software, which ties everything together into one integrated system. ICx worked closely with Moonblink Communications, a value added distributor focused on wireless technologies, to identify the technologies that would best serve this project.

A total of 21 weather sensors, traffic sensors placed every quarter mile, and a series of CCTV cameras all detect and gather a great deal of information including the severity of the fog, driver visibility, amount of traffic, traffic speeds and more. All of this information is then fed back to the Cameleon software via Proxim’s wireless radios, which are centrally managed via Proxim’s network management system, ProximVision ES. The Cameleon software then utilizes the data to create the warnings and updates that are communicated to drivers via the large changeable message signs, which are placed every half mile.

The key to driver safety, however, is how fast these alerts can be delivered to drivers. The Fog Pilot system uses advanced automation technology that can process and deliver the weather warnings automatically to drivers. The high performance and low latency of Proxim’s wireless technology enables these automated alerts to be processed and delivered to drivers in under 30 seconds.

“We have complete confidence that this system will both reduce accidents and save lives during the winter fog season,” said CALTRANS District 6 Director, Malcolm X. Dougherty. “Our $12 million investment in this system will be well worth it if it can help save even one life.”
