Correction: Rim Semiconductor
In my initial report on Rim Semiconductor, I wrote that Embarq was one of the few publicly named members of the IPSL SIG–the group convened by Rim to develop industry standards for its IP Subscriber Line technology. In fact, Embarq is not now and has never been a member of IPSL SIG. Rather, Embarq hosted the group’s first meeting last April, but a spokesman for the carrier assures me that their only contribution was the locale–Embarq’s Technology Center. The telco has not participated in the group’s standardization efforts, though Embarq has evaulated Rim’s gear and is “keeping an eye on the technology,” the spokesman said.

Did Dr. Kenneth Chan clue you in on the fact that when Sprint(?) Nextel(?) went looking for a name for their new company, they chose “Embarq.” Seemingly, the carrier did not do a very good job of trademark research. Somebody else owned the name. So Sprinty-Nextelly bought the Embarq label for $200,000 from Rimjob. That asset was probably the most valuable one that Rimjob has ever owned. Was part of the deal that Embarq would become an accomplice of IPSL? Was part of the deal that Embarq would never, never, ever, ever tell the truth about their evaluation of whatever IPSL is? Was part of the deal that Embarq would be complicit with whatever the management of Rimjob wanted to further the game? Remember, Dr. Chan has nailed Rimjob as a penny stock scam. In fairness, it is for every penny stock scam to stink from its own odor. The role of Embarq as an enabler to facilitate the fraud needs to be determined. If Embarq is now married to Rimjob, its reputation may be sullied.
