Occam cuts 10% of staff amid broadband stimulus chill

Occam Networks (Nasdaq: OCNW), considered to be a likely beneficiary of federal broadband stimulus initiatives, reported today that it is cutting 10% of its staff amid a sales slowdown it attributes in part to customers slowing purchases due to uncertainty over broadband stimulus allocation. more

Analyst: New Kindle isn’t a magic bullet

Amazon’s new Kindle DX was unveiled just this morning but its being heralded as a device that will transform the textbook industry and breath life into a dying newspaper industry. Yankee Group senior analyst Josh Martin isn’t so convinced.

“If newspapers think that this product will help their flagging industry, they have another think coming,” Martin said. ”You do not make the technology fit the medium, you make the medium fit the technology. They have much farther to go in this regard.” more
