Verizon uses SaaS to offer private IP network management
Verizon Business (NYSE:VZ) announced a new network management service for private IP networks today delivered using a software-as-a-service (Saas) model and based on the Spectrum Infrastructure Manager CA unveiled last month.
The new Asset Assurance service (announced today along with security and firewall options for private IP nets) includes device-monitoring, alarming, fault isolation, root-cause analysis, service-level reporting and IT service management to help corporate customers quickly pinpoint the cause of problems in their private IP networks.
Verizon is offering the service in tiers to businesses of all sizes, arguing that SaaS makes sense for all of them.
“The SaaS delivery model is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses and large enterprises because services can be purchased a la carte,” Verizon said. “[Saas] eliminat[es] the need for customers to purchase, learn about or maintain network-management software and hardware.”
Spectrum Infrastructure Manager is a new release of CA’s Network Fault Manager, renamed because it does more than fault management and applies to more than just carrier networks, the vendor said. The product now applies to physical and virtualized data centers the performance management capabilities that it once applied just to carrier networks, using VMWare’s data center virtualization technology.
