PENTON MEDIA TO LAUNCH CONNECTED PLANET MAGAZINE
NEW YORK, NY (July 22, 2009) - When historians document the first decade of the 21st century, they will likely call this period the “communications revolution” and recount the birth of an information age not yet imagined. Penton Media, the publisher of Telephony magazine and TelephonyOnline.com is very pleased to announce a new brand that will both cover and help shape this communications revolution.
Connected Planet will launch with the September 2009 issue. It will stand alone as the publication for service providers and enterprise users of advanced telecommunications, IT, and mobile networking services and will bring focus to the technologies and real-world examples that demonstrate how the combination of IT and pervasive networking technologies is transforming the way the world communicates, collaborates, shares/stores information, manages resources, and is entertained. Connected Planet magazine will replace Telephony magazine.
“The time has come for Connected Planet,” said Wayne Madden, Penton Digital Media and Communications Division market leader. “All of our research and our extensive conversations with key industry thought leaders, associations and manufacturers indicate that we’re moving beyond the relatively straightforward telecommunications marketplace, into a new, completely connected realm. Connected Planet is designed to serve and help shape the new marketplace.”
Connected Planet will focus on the next generation of service providers which includes wireless and telecom network operators, Web and Internet services companies, application developers and service integrators, as well as on how their customers use services in new ways. The new brand will show how these service providers can deliver new managed and hosted network-based solutions and also will provide an in-depth look at how technology is:

In addition, Connected Planet will identify key technology developments and trends and explore the challenges faced by both service providers and their customers including technical, regulatory and market issues.

Telephony magazine has been published since 1901 and has enjoyed a long, successful history serving and helping to shape the telecom and telecom service provider marketplace. Telephony will cease publication with its July/August issue, mailing in late July. The team which has produced Telephony will now focus on producing the Connected Planet brand.
TelephonyOnline.com, with more than 160,000 unique visitors each month and with its vast depth of coverage well beyond that of Telephony magazine, will continue to serve as the online home for Penton’s ongoing coverage of the communications marketplace and the home of the new Connected Planet content.
